Proposal for Portsmouth City Pool Closure

posted Feb 12, 2010 4:43 PM by Sue McNamara   [ updated Feb 12, 2010 4:46 PM ]

I’m sure some of you may be aware but for those of you who are not ,the Portsmouth City Manager will be proposing to City Councilors to close  the Portsmouth Indoor Pool at the end of June in order for the city to meet its budget objectives.  This has many ramifications for our team, the most important being it leaves us without a place to practice or hold meets. The PST Board will be meeting Monday evening with other groups that may be affected negatively by the potential pool closure in order to work collaboratively with them to demonstrate to the city the importance and need of the indoor pool to the greater Portsmouth area.

The Board will also be meeting separately Monday evening to discuss all the ramifications of the potential closure and to develop alternative plans in the event the pool does close.  The Board will make every effort to keep you informed on any new developments and plans for the immediate future, it welcomes ideas or suggestions that may assist in dealing with this issue. The Board will call upon all PST families to help support the team in ways it feels necessary from now through June. It cannot be stressed enough that your active participation will be needed to attend various public meetings to insure that the city clearly receives our message.

Thank you
PST Board
