We are excited you are interested in swimming with the Portsmouth Swim Team. We are a well established swim team which helps swimmers improve their technique and conditioning in a friendly environment. The details for our winter season such as practice schedule and costs will be available soon. We are in the process of finalizing items with the new pool manager. At the same time we will be announcing try-out dates. Our try-outs are very casual - just a chance for the swimmer to swim a lap or two of different strokes so we can place the swimmer in the correct group or suggest a bit more time with lessons. The winter season will be starting up on Oct. 18th and registration will be taking place in Sept. |

We finished up our regular part of the
season over
the weekend of July 17th and 18th. We now have a couple swimmers
attending
Age Group and Open Championships at Harvard then we have about 25
attending
Summer Champs Aug. 7th & 8th. We know a number of you have prior
summer commitments that weekend and that you will be with us in
spirit.
On July 17th a handful of swimmers
attended an
outdoor dual meet at Hampshire Hills in Milford. This meet provided an
opportunity for swimmers to swim new events and to meet their 2 dual
meet
requirement. Anna Bergeron and Sophia Campbell each swam new events.
Nora Mitchell, Hannah Patch and Marcy Waters all dropped time in one
event. Jack Quinn swam all three of his events in almost the same time
as
his seed times. At Master's meets an award is given out sometimes to
the
swimmer who comes closest to their seed time - I believe Jack would have
won
that award at this meet.
We also had a handful of swimmers
attend a Last
Chance Qualifying meet at the Jenny Thompson pool over the same
weekend.
Many swimmers are swimming tired after swimming at Regionals the weekend
before
and our taper for Champs has not begun yet. Micheal Landry was able to
turn in some faster freestyle times in the 50, 100 and 200.
The season has been going well and we
are looking
forward to our swims at Champs. We will also be in touch with banquet
information once the date is set. |

This past weekend we had 17 swimmers participate in the Summer Regionals meet at the YMCA in Beverly Mass. To be honest it was kind of nice to be at an indoor pool in the summer - no worries about swimmers getting too much sun or the tents blowing away in a storm's wind. In terms of swimming we had a lot of successful races. For the older swimmers from our team and others this meet was an opportunity to swim one's stongest events in a long course pool. Most swimmers were focusing on particular aspects of their races more so than times. Our juniors and senior swimmers are still doing hard and long sets at practice; tapering will not begin for another week or two. In a number of races our swimmers equaled their best time or shaved a bit off, particularly in the 50 or 100 free. Our junior and senior contingent included Taylor Avrett, David Berlin, Katie Berlin, Jenny Dipietro, Georgie Gardner, Kendra Waters, Serena Waters and Emma Wheeler. Our younger swimmers included Jack Dipietro, Nora Epler, Tess McNamara, Meghan Mickela, Molly Mickela, Nora Mitchell, Anabel Santini, Sadie Shore, and Marcy Waters. This group had a number of good swims. Nora improved her time in the 50 back. Tess improved several of her times as did Molly, Nora, Anabel, Sadie and Marcy. Meghan had an excellent meet - she improved her times in 5 of her 6 events. These girls were also able to participate in a couple relays. During this meet Sadie Shore was able to achieve one more qualifying time for Age Groups. This brings her total number of events to 6. She will be representing PST at this competitive meet next weekend at Harvard.

Awesome is truly the word to use to describe our USS meet held June 26 and 27. We had awesome weather. We had an awesome total of 191 swimmers from 11 different teams. We raised an awesome amount of money. And everyone seemed to have an awesome time. The coaches were truly impressed with the level of swimming our swimmers exhibited that weekend. Everyone seemed to rise to the occasion. Several swimmers like Andrew Arcidi, Taylor Avrett, David Berlin, Katie Berlin, Georgie Gardner, Michael Landry, Lisa McDevitt, Robina Mitchell and Emma Wheeler swam some of the long events offered like the 1500, 800 and 400 free and the 400 IM. Over half of our swims were best or equal to best times; of 155 total swims 87 were best or equal times. This means that almost every swimmer had at least one best time. It is kind of exciting to say there are too many good times to list them individually. Just know that each of you swam well. We have a lot to be proud of as individuals and as a team.

In early June we had a few swimmers participate in a season opener meet at the Jenny Thompson pool. This was an opportunity for swimmers to get started with swimming in a long course pool. It is hard to achieve best times when your best time was swum at the end of last season when you were in great shape and you were swimming in a short course pool. Several swimmers did however get best times or times that equaled a converted best time. Andrew Arcidi and David Berlin equaled some of their times. Nora Epler had best times in the 50 fly and 100 free. Georgie Gardner swam the 200 back for the first time. Jordan Lena equaled most of her times and swam a best time in the 50 back. Rebecca Marella equaled her times in 3 of her 4 events as did Jacquelyn Tabora in 2 of her events. A couple weeks later, June 18 - 20, we had a few more swimmers go to another USS meet at the Jenny Thompson pool. Our results were very similar to the earlier meet. Andrew Arcidi and Taylor Avrett each had good 400 free swims on Friday night. Our younger swimmers; Nora Epler, Sadie Shore and Amelia Snyder; each had good 200 free swims as did Jack Quinn. And our 2 youngest swimmers; Erin Palmer and Anabel Santini; each had good 50 free swims. Our swimmers also had a good time hanging out together between events and cheering each other on during events. Coming Next - an update on our own very successful USS meet.

YOU MUST SWIM IN 2 MEETS IN ORDER TO SWIM AT CHAMPS - YOU MAY SWIM IN 2 DUAL MEETS OR ONE DUAL MEET AND ONE USS MEET. We have 2 dual meets remaining - one at Hampshire Hills on Sat. morning the 17th and one in Milford on the 24th at an outdoor pool. We had a good showing at our dual meet on June 13th but many of you still need to get in another meet. If you are unsure please be in touch and we can let you know your status. As usual sign-up for the meet through Active Network from out website. There is no fee or required volunteer assignments for these upcoming dual meets. We hope everyone had an enjoyable 4th of July, PST Coaches

Recently we enjoyed a fun and successful dual meet at our pool. This was our only dual meet at home for the summer so we were glad many of you could attend.
We had a number of swimmers who achieved best times or swam an event for the first time. We would like to mention a couple who particularly stepped out of their comfort zone and swam difficult events for themselves. Maya Bailey and Martha McCaddin each swam the 50 fly. Nathan Kotzen swam the 100 free. Erin Palmer swam the 50 back and 100 free. Camden Myles, Helen Wheeler and Sophia Urquhart swam the 200 free for the first time.
Four swimmers swam their first meet this past weekend - Ann Bergeron, Nora Fitzmaurice, Jack Durkin and Max Reich. It may be hard for most of us to remember how overwhelming the first meet can be though I bet some of you have memories of how scared you were.
It is early in the season and not every swim will be a best time but it is worthwhile to practice racing. So each of you who attended had a successful meet in those terms.
You can find the results from the meet on the bulletin board and ribbons have been placed in everyone's folder.
Upcoming: a recap of USS meets held at the Jenny Thompson pool in June.
